Report a problem

OpenPWA takes problem reports by email. There is no public issue tracker and no edit button; the address below reaches the editorial desk directly, and the same address is prefilled by the “Report a problem” link at the end of every reference, guide, ecosystem, compatibility and news page.

Write to re-openpwa@inbox.withretide.com with the subject line

[openpwa] /reference/capabilities/web-share/

replacing the path with the page you are reporting. The footer link fills this in for you.

A report that can be acted on without a round trip names three things:

  1. The page and the statement. Quote the sentence or the table cell, or give the heading it sits under. For a compatibility row, name the browser, the operating system and the status shown.
  2. What is wrong with it. Wrong version number, behaviour that differs from what the page says, a source that no longer resolves, a Chinese sentence that says something different from the English one, a page that should exist and does not.
  3. A source. A specification section, a vendor release note, a browser-compat-data file, a bug tracker entry, or the exact steps you ran with browser and OS versions. The editors do not publish a change on a report alone; they publish it when a source supports it.

Attachments are fine. Screenshots help when the problem is in rendered UI; a copied error string helps more when the problem is in code.

  • The desk reads every report. Reports are handled in the order received; there is no guaranteed response time.
  • When a report leads to a change, the page is corrected, its “Last verified” date moves, and the correction is recorded in the site changelog with the date and a one-line summary. Reports are not credited by name, because the site does not publish personal names.
  • When a report is not acted on, the usual reason is that the cited source does not settle the question. The desk will say so if you ask.
  • Security problems with the site itself (not with the web platform): same address, subject prefixed [openpwa][security].
  • Licence questions: text is CC BY-SA 4.0 and data is CC0 1.0; see the licence line in any page footer. No permission is needed to quote or reuse within those terms.
  • Suggestions for new entries are welcome at the same address. A suggestion that names the primary sources the entry would be built on is far more likely to be scheduled.
